Nadi Parikshan
🌿 Naadi Parikshan (Pulse Diagnosis) in Ayurveda
Naadi Parikshan, also known as pulse diagnosis, is an ancient and powerful diagnostic method in Ayurveda. It allows a skilled practitioner to assess an individual’s physical, mental, and emotional health simply by feeling the pulse at the wrist.
🩺 What is Naadi?
In Ayurveda, Naadi refers to the pulse, which is considered the rhythmic flow of prana (life energy) through the body. The pulse is more than just a heartbeat — it reflects the state of doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and the overall energy balance in the body.
✋ How Naadi Parikshan is Performed
The practitioner places three fingers (index, middle, and ring) on the radial artery of the wrist (usually the right wrist in men and the left in women).
Each finger corresponds to a specific dosha:
Index finger → Vata (Air & Space)
Middle finger → Pitta (Fire & Water)
Ring finger → Kapha (Earth & Water)
The rhythm, depth, speed, quality, and temperature of the pulse are observed.
🔍 What a Practitioner Can Detect through Naadi Parikshan
Dosha Imbalances – Detects excess or deficiency of Vata, Pitta, or Kapha
Organ Health – Reflects condition of heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, etc.
Agni (Digestive Fire) – Strength or weakness of digestion
Ojas (Vital Energy) – Immune strength and vitality
Mental State – Stress, anxiety, or emotional disturbance
Disease Tendencies – Early signs of diseases even before symptoms appear
🧠 Types of Pulse (Naadi Types) as per Dosha
Dosha Pulse Nature Metaphor Used
Vata Irregular, thin, fast Like a snake (sarpa naadi)
Pitta Sharp, bounding, warm Like a frog (manduka naadi)
Kapha Slow, steady, deep, coldLike a swan (hansa naadi)
A practitioner may also detect dual dosha or tridoshic pulse, which indicates a mix of doshas.
